About East Norwegian Twp

Founded in 1804, East Norwegian Township is one of the oldest municipalities in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. Originally part of the larger Norwegian Township, the area was named for early Norwegian settlers and the rolling “Norwegian” coal fields that became central to the region’s growth. In the 19th century, the township thrived as part of the Anthracite Coal Region, with mining, railroads, and small communities shaping its identity. Today, while much of the coal industry has faded, East Norwegian Township remains proud of its rich heritage, close-knit neighborhoods, and the scenic beauty of its hills, valleys, and streams.

  • The township is located in Saint Clair School District. You can reach them directly at 570-429-2716.

  • Trash pickup is every Wednesday. If there is a holiday on Monday then the pickup date will be moved to Thursday.

  • Reach out to Jerry Farro, Building Inspector, at 570-573-2825. He will be able to direct you on the steps you need to take.

  • Township meetings are held on the first Monday of every month at 7:00PM EST. An annoucement will be made if the meeting date and/or time needs to be adjusted.

    Meeting minutes are available upon request.

  • Recycling is not currently available in the township.

  • East Norwegian Township is made up of Schoentown, Mill Creek, Dieners Hill, and 5 Points.
